Leopard cubs found in Arasinakere

October 11, 2011 08:48 am | Updated 08:48 am IST - MYSORE:

Three leopard cubs were found in a field in Arasinakere in Jayapura Hobli of Mysore taluk on Monday.

The cubs were found fending for themselves, and hence the local community alerted the Forest Department and asked them to relocate them or shift them to the zoo.

Senior Forest Department officials, who rushed to the spot, urged the people not to disturb the cubs as they were really young and could not survive without their mother. They pleaded for the villagers to be calm.

Though a section of the people argued that the presence of leopard cubs so close to the village would endanger their safety, the Forest staff appealed to their sentiments and said that the mother may have gone foraging for food and was bound to return soon.

Hence, it was decided to leave the cubs alone for now, keep a close watch on their movements and ascertain that the mother returns, failing which the authorities would decide the next course of action.
