Legal literacy vehicle to travel across Mysuru

The District Legal Service Authority (DSLA) on Wednesday launched a legal literacy vehicle to spread legal awareness among citizens.

Principal District and Sessions Court judge K.S. Mudgal flagged off the vehicle from the court premises. It will now travel across all the seven taluks over the next month, holding legal literacy programmes every day.

The initiative aims to create awareness among the rural population and weaker sections, including Dalits, minorities, backward classes and women, about the free legal guidance provided by DSLA.

Ms. Mudgal said most people are not aware of their constitutional rights and responsibilities. The legal clinics set up in gram panchayats have helped people by resolving many disputes through mediation. Even though the district’s literacy rate is 72 per cent, legal literacy appears to be poor. The district’s population is estimated to be around 29 lakh, while there are about 82,500 pending cases, she said.
