The Left parties will organise a publicity campaign and protest march on May 25 in Dharwad and May 27 in Hubballi against the alleged anti-common people and regressive economic policies of the Union and State Governments.
Speaking to presspersons here, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State committee member S.Y. Gurushant said that all Left parties would jointly organise this convention.
The Left parties would organise the publicity campaign and public awareness rallies at the taluk and hobli levels throughout this month. The main objective was to organise a people’s movement against the economic policies of the Union and the State governments going against the common people, especially the workers, farmers and deprived sections. While the Union Government was forcibly pursuing economic policies that favoured the corporate sector in the name of development and made the lives of the common people miserable, the State government too had failed to tackle drought, the rise of regressive forces, communal elements and others. Besides, it had taken steps to weaken the Lokayukta institution and thus promoting corruption instead of curbing it, he added.
The main demands of the Left parties are: dropping amendments to labour laws which are anti-workers in nature, ensuring job security to contract workers, part-time employees, Anganwadi workers and other such workers of the unorganised sectors, implementing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to help drought-hit people and others. The Left parties will also organise a rally in Bengaluru in the first week of June, he said.
