The evaluation process is running behind schedule by 18 days

April 21, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - MYSURU:

A day after the PU lecturers called off their three-week long boycott of evaluation of II Pre-University answer scripts, they reported for duty at their respective centres here for the evaluation work on Wednesday. However, the lecturers were asked to come for duty on Friday since the coding and decoding of answer scripts was still underway.

After completing the formalities, the lecturers returned to their respective places only to report back to the evaluation work on Friday, as the authorities are hopeful of completing the coding and decoding process with the principals reporting to work on Wednesday.

The authorities here are yet to ascertain the exact number of lecturers, who are called assistant examiners, deputed for the evaluation work since lecturers from private colleges had also been roped in as an alternative measure when the lecturers were on strike seeking implementation of the recommendations of the G. Kumar Naik report on pay parity. As the evaluation task is running behind schedule by 18 days, the Department of Pre-University Education had resolved to avail the services of the private college lecturers even though the lecturers from the government colleges had called off their stir. A lecturer said, “If the services of both are availed, the evaluation work may be complete in a week. The work will be divided among us, paving away for the early announcement of results in the interest of students.” Speaking to The Hindu, Deputy Director of Pre-University Education, Mysuru, K.M. Puttu said the principals have taken up the remaining work of coding and decoding process and are expected to complete it by Thursday. “We had earlier thought of commencing the evaluation from Thursday….,” he said.

Asked how many lecturers will be on evaluation duty, he said, “I don’t have the exact number as private college lecturers have also been roped in for the evaluation work. But the number of evaluation centres will remain the same even though the number of evaluators has risen.”
