Though the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is yet to declare him the next Chief Minister, people have started congratulating Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jagadish Shettar.
Legislators from different political parties, politicians and officials were seen congratulating Mr. Shettar, who returned to Bangalore on Thursday after camping in Delhi for the last few days to meet party central leaders.
Soon after his arrival, he went to the residence of the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and briefed him about his Delhi visit.
A large number of his supporters, legislators and officials were seen competing with one another to congratulate him when he visited his ministerial office at the Vidhana Soudha.
At the same time, Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, who was his usual calm self, tried to underscore the need for making a quick decision on the leadership issue. He told mediapersons that confusion in the government, if allowed to prolong, would affect administration. “The high command should understand that the delay in taking the decision is creating concern among those who have to leave the chair and those who are going to occupy it,” he remarked in a lighter vein.
But he indirectly tried to underscore the need for making a good decision on leadership by remarking that: “people of the State themselves would take a suitable decision if any problems arise while taking a call on leadership.” Stating that the ball with respect to the leadership change was now in the central leaders’ court, he remarked: “We do not know whether they are going to hit a sixer or a boundary.”
