Minister of Medical Education Sharanprakash Patil, who has been appointed in charge of the district, has said that laxity on the part of officials in implementing government programmes and attending to the problems of the people will not be tolerated.
“It should be a people-friendly, effective and transparent administration in the district and corrupt and inefficient officials will have no place.”
He was here to participate in the Vanamahotsava programme on the campus of the Veterinary Dairy Science College at Mahagoan village on Saturday.
Dr. Patil said that middlemen and corrupt officials should be tolerated. He said that it had come to his knowledge that there were shortcomings in the implementation of government programmes in the district. Instructions had been given to Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal to record the performance of individual departments at the taluk level and regularly review the progress of the implementation of these programmes.
The Minister said that the State government had decided to take up the planting of one crore saplings in a week-long drive from July 2 throughout the State. The intention was to increase the green cover to 33 per cent in the State.
Dr. Patil said that although the Forest Department regularly took up the planting of saplings every year, the increase in green cover or forest cover had been bare minimum due to reasons including low survival rate of the saplings. “The Forest Department should attach more importance and ensure higher survival rate of these saplings.” Later, the Minister participated in a Janaspandana programme to hear the grievances of the people at Mahagoan.
