Parents of young IAS officer Anurag Tewari, who died under mysterious circumstances recently, visited Bidar to find a home for Huli, the dog that was their son’s constant companion for eight years.
B.N. Tewari, a retired lecturer, and Susheela, a home maker, left the dog in the custody of Girish Reddy, who was Tewari's assistant when he served as Deputy Commissioner of Bidar. They stayed at the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Ashrama in Bidar for a few days when they brought the dog along.
Anurag Tewari had got the pup when he was serving as assistant commissioner in Tumkuru district. The Tewari family sources say Huli is not getting adjusted to a home without his master. “It is painful for us to see him walk around the house, as if he waiting for Anurag to come back,” a family member said.
Mr. Reddy says he will look after the labrador like a member of his family. “I took care of him at the DC's house on daily basis. Veterinarians Ilyas Zuberi and M. Zaki treated him when he was sick. We will continue to care for him now,” he said and recalled the way Anurag Tewari used to introduce the dog to visitors. “He (labrador) has a pure Kannada name Huli (Tiger in Kannada),” he would say.
The 2007 batch Karnataka cadre IAS officer was found dead outside a State guest house in Lucknow in May this year. A native of the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, Anurag Tewari was posted as the Commissioner, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Bengaluru, when he passed away. He had served in several districts of Karnataka earlier.
