Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of imparting primary education in the mother tongue.
Mr. Siddaramaiah, during his first meeting with Mr. Modi after he took over as the Prime Minister, urged the Prime Minister to convene a meeting of all Chief Ministers to discuss the language issue, a release from the Information Department said.
It said the Chief Minister drew the attention of the Prime Minister to the Supreme Court verdict that the medium of instruction should be decided by the parents and not by the State.
CauveryMr. Siddaramaiah also urged Mr. Modi to continue with the present set-up in matters related to the Cauvery issue and sought the continuation of the Cauvery Monitoring Committee.
Urging Mr. Modi not to approve Tamil Nadu’s request to constitute the Cauvery Management Board, the Chief Minister said the matter was pending in the Supreme Court and it was our stand that the apex court should decide the [Cauvery] issue, the release added.
