Several incidents of landslips were reported from Kadwad village in Karwar taluk on Saturday creating panic among the people. This is the second such occurrence in three days in the village this season.

In October 2009, as many as 19 people were killed in landslips in Zariwada area of the village

B. N. Krishnaiah, Deputy Commissioner and R. Ramesh, Superintendent of Police, Uttara Kannada and O. Kishan Chand, Assistant Commissioner, visited the spot. The Deputy Commissioner urged the people not to panic over the incident.

Mr Krishnaiah said the soil under the hill behind the Urdu school was removed in large quantity by some people and as a result the hill caved in as rains lashed the area on Friday and Saturday.

The students of the Urdu school were shifted to the Kannada school that is situated above the hillock. The Deputy Commissioner urged the people not to spread rumours.
