'Land purchase for RDPR University almost complete'

The State Government has almost completed the process of purchasing the land for the proposed Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University being set up in Gadag district, Rural and Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H.K. Patil said.

Delivering the Independence Day speech at K.H.Patil District Stadium in Gadag on Monday, Mr. Patil said that 12 acres of land had been procured and handed over to Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for construction of a cricket stadium in Gadag and shortly the process of preparing the list of 6,000 shelter-less people in Gadag Betageri and providing shelter for them would be initiated.

The minister said that the long pending Singatalur Lift Irrigation Scheme had been completed in Gadag district and several developmental works were on the verge of completion. As many as 190 houses were being constructed for the police personnel in different taluks at a cost of Rs. 29.80 crores, while Devaraj Urs Bhavan was being constructed at a cost of Rs. 1 Cr at Mundaragi.

Emphasising that people’s participation was important for effective utilisation and completion of the development works, the minister said that State government had initiated steps to ensure people’s participation in the government projects and also effective implementation of the projects through the officials. Mr. Patil also listed out various works taken up in Gadag district including drawing water to the Bhishma Kere (Tank) from Tungabhadra river, opening of ‘Bapuji Seva Kendras’, completion of the construction of building of veterinary sciences college at Dambal, construction of community halls and theatres and others.

Referring to the role played by the district during freedom struggle, Mr. Patil remembered the contributions of Mundaragi Jevaraya, Babasaheb of Naragund, Alur Venkatarao, Huilagola Narayanarao, Andanappa Doddameti, Venkatesh Magadi and others.

On the occasion, the minister distributed keys of 70 taxis to unemployed youths of scheduled castes and tribes as part of tourism promotion scheme. The minister subsequently drove one of the beneficiary’s car up to Bhisma Kere to participate in another programme. A booklet on freedom struggle brought out by the Department of Information and Public Relations was also released.
