MP for Mysuru-Kodagu Parliamentary constituency, Pratap Simha has urged the State government to provide necessary lands to extend the runway at the Mysore Airport so that Air India and other services can operate bigger planes from Mysuru to various destinations.

“Unless the runway is extended at the Mysuru Airport, it is difficult to operate bigger air crafts,” he said adding that stakeholders and businessmen are unhappy with the operational timings of the private air-craft which finally withdrew services to Bengaluru from Mysuru few months ago.

Addressing a press conference here today, Pratap Simhas said that Air India has agreed to operate bigger aircrafts from Mysuru to different destinations including Bengaluru and Chennai provided runway at the Mysuru Airport is extended.

Railway-line doubling

Mr. Simha further said that track-doubling work between Bengaluru and Mysuru would be completed by December-end this year. The NDA Government had released the complete grant of Rs. 875 crores for the track doubling project, he said.

He pointed out that there were too many curves on the existing railway line between Bengaluru-Mysuru and efforts are on to remove the curves so that high-speed trains could ply easily. There has been heavy traffic pressure on Bengaluru-Mysuru high-way and doubling of railway-line and introduction of few more trains between Bengaluru-Mysuru may be helpful. Plans are underway to introduce high-speed trains from Mysuru to Bengaluru and other destinations, he said
