Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has said that the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has identified sufficient space for constructing a hi-tech bus terminal in the centre of the city and the corporation chief engineer has been instructed to prepare a plan.
Speaking after inaugurating a new bus depot here on Sunday, he said that the corporation has implemented development works worth Rs. 50 crore in Chitradurga, Shimoga and Davangere districts.
Since the Chitradurga bus terminal is very small and based on an appeal from the district in-charge Minister H. Anjaneya, the corporation has decided to construct the new bus terminal with all facilities, he said.
There is a demand for a divisional office of the corporation in Chitradurga and Shimoga districts, he added.
The final decision would be taken after studying feasibility and holding discussions with elected representatives from the two districts, he said.
The corporation has decided to introduce bus services on new routes that had been deprived of bus facilities for all these years.
The corporation has purchased 400 buses for the purpose and the Chief Minister will inaugurate the services on August 1 in front of the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, he added.
Mr. Anjaneya said that Mr. Ramalinga Reddy has been urged to construct another new bus terminal at a cost of Rs. 15 crore.
The officers concerned have identified land for that bus terminal in Holalkere taluk and the foundation stone would be laid shortly, he added.
Chitradurga MLA G.H. Tippareddy said that a divisional office in Chitradurga has been a long-pending demand of the people. Mr. Ramalinga Reddy should take steps to fulfil the demand.
He also appealed to the Minister to restart bus services to Adumalleshwar mini zoo on Saturday and Sunday to help people visiting the zoo during the weekend.
Chitradurga Zilla Panchayat president Soubhagya Basavarajan, MP B.N. Chandrappa, MLC Jayamma Balraj and CMC president Manjunath Goppe were present.
