Deepa Soundarya, the festive exhibition of lamps, and Kreedaa Kaushalya, a carnival of traditional board games, will be inaugurated at Prathima Gallery on Nazarabad Main Road here on Sunday at 6 p.m. The exhibition will be open till November 15.
Deepa Soundarya and Kreedaa Kaushalya is being hosted by Ramsons Kala Pratishtana (RKP). beautify the new lamps with colour, motifs, designs and other accessories. Thus ‘Deepa is imbued with Soundarya’, the trust said in a release here.
From across the country
RKP has brought innumerable lamps from across the country to add a little charm to Deepavali celebrations. In addition to lamps of every possible shape and possible color, a floor of the gallery has been earmarked for celebration of traditional board games from across the country.
Pagaday, Pachisi, Aliguli Mane, Chaduranga, Goats and Tigers, Snakes and Ladders are just a few of the dozens of games on display and for sale. Visitors can also view paintings that show traditional board games being played, the release said.
There are paintings of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar III pondering over his ‘Knight’s moves’ as well as a painted board of Gyan Baazi (the Game of Knowledge), a rendering of the old favourite ‘Snakes and Ladders.’
Various character from innumerable stories and rich mythology of India have been depicted playing board games, according to the release.
