Three more classrooms will be built to overcome the space shortage at the Government Higher Primary and High School at Kyasamballi, said N. Anjanappa, Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI), Kolar, on Thursday.
He visited the school last week on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, following a report in The Hindu on July 19 about classes being conducted on the terrace owing to lack of classrooms. He said he would file a report on the matter with the DC, K.V. Thrilokchandra.
The DDPI admitted there was space shortage in the school at Kyasamballi, the hometown of K.C. Reddy, the first Chief Minister of Karnataka. However, it was not right to conduct classes on the terrace, he accepted. “We are responsible for the safety of the schoolchildren,” he said.
Mr. Anjanappa met the headmaster and teachers of the school and directed them not to conduct classes on the rooftop under any circumstances.
BEO visits school
Block Education Officer K. Jairaj also visited the school.
“During my visit, I identified a spot near the school for construction of additional classrooms. A proposal will soon be sent to the authorities concerned,” Mr. Anjanappa said.
He also thanked The Hindu for “opening the eyes of the department with the report”.
