State president of the Janata Dal (Secular) H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday dubbed Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) president B.S. Yeddyurappa’s remark that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (Secular) had an “overt understanding” for an alliance in the coming Assembly elections as “misguiding and mischievous”.
Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Kumaraswamy said that support and suggestions extended by the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda to the BJP for protecting the interest of people in the Cauvery basin was being “misinterpreted” by Mr. Yeddyurappa, who tried to take political advantage of the development.
Desperate with dwindling number of his followers and supporters, Mr. Yeddyurappa was trying every trick in his hat to weaken the Janata Dal (Secular), whose support base expanded in recent days because of pro-people struggle, he said.
When asked about the preparation for the election to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to be held on March 7, the former Chief Minister said that his party’s preparation for the Assembly elections came in handy, as over 170 candidates, whose names have been finalised by the party had already started working in their constituencies.
While both Congress and BJP were “planning” to go to people, the JD(S) had already started campaign for the ULB polls, he added.
“We have already finalised candidates for Hubli-Dharwar City Corporation and hope to get majority”, he claimed.
