The Janata Dal (Secular) Legislature Party (JDLP) on Monday unanimously elected party’s State president H.D. Kumaraswamy as the legislature party leader.
Elected legislators, defeated candidates and senior party leaders attended the JDLP meeting convened to introspect the party’s performance in the recently concluded election to the Legislative Assembly.
Mr. Kumaraswamy who got elected from Ramanagaram Assembly segment will submit his resignation to the membership of the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. He was elected as Lok Sabha member from Bangalore Rural Parliamentary constituency.
Janata Dal (Secular) leader and Lok Sabha member from Mandya N. Chaluvarayaswamy, who won from Nagamangala Assembly segment, will also resign to the Lok Sabha membership along with Mr. Kumaraswamy. Both of them will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pranab Mukherjee and express gratitude for providing opportunity to serve.
Disclosing this to presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that he would try his best to live up to the expectation of legislators, who have reposed faith in him. He would take each one of the legislators into confidence and discharge his duty as JDLP leader.
Party supremo H.D. Deve Gowda, who participated in the JDLP meeting, tried in to infuse confidence among the candidates who have lost in the election and explained the role of Opposition party to the elected legislators, he added. The meeting also discussed about the mistakes committed in the Assembly polls and formulated strategies to win maximum number of seats in the coming election to the Lok Sabha, he said.
Accusing the Congress of misusing official machinery and employing money power in the election to the Periyapatna Assembly constituency which was postponed owing to the death of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sannamoge Gowda, he said that the election was real test for JD (S) to humble Chief Minister Siddaramiah in his own turf. He would camp in Periyapatna from Wednesday to Sunday and work for the victory of party candidate, he added. The JD(S) would provide “breathing time” of six months for the new government to show its commitment to the people and observe every move carefully. The party would extend complete support, only if the Congress works towards improving condition of the people. “If not, the party will oppose the government both inside and outside the House”, he cautioned.
Noting that the challenge before the government was to address the drinking water problem being faced by the people both in rural and urban areas, he said that JD (S) would extend support to the government in addressing the issue.
