KSOU convocation today

The 15th annual convocation of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) will be held on the Kalamandir premises here on Thursday.

Of the 59,314 candidates who wrote the exams in different disciplines during 2014–15, 28,007 have passed. The pass percentage this year is 47.21 as against 38 in the previous year.

M.G. Krishnan, Vice-Chancellor, KSOU, said here on Wednesday that 19 candidates in 11 disciplines will receive Ph.D. degrees. Of this, seven are women candidates. Besides, 18,757 candidates will be conferred master’s degree and 9,231 bachelor’s degree. Over 1,371 candidates will receive diplomas, he said.

Gold medal

Thirty-four gold medals and 24 cash prizes will be distributed to 37 toppers in different disciplines.

K.J. Suresh, Registrar (Evaluation), said over 437 candidates have passed in science and technology, despite the absence of laboratory and other facilities provided in regular universities.

Sixteen persons will receive Ph.D. degrees in Arts; two each in Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, and Sociology; one person each in Kannada, Economics, and Law; five in Political Science; two in Commerce and Management, and one person in Education.

Vajubhai R. Vala, Governor and Chancellor of KSOU, will take part in the convocation on the Kalamandira premises. A. Surya Prakash, Chairman, Prasar Bharati, New Delhi, will deliver the convocation address.

Minister for Higher Education R.V. Deshpande will take part in the function.
