Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra has said that the State government was thinking of extending Ksheera Bhagya scheme to five days a week from three days a week.

Addressing a gathering at a Republic Day programme at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium here on Sunday, Mr. Jayachandra said that based on a suggestion given by the Siddaganga Math swamiji, the government is planning to provide milk five days a week to children in view of the drought condition in the region. This will help children get nutrition, he added.

He said that he would discuss the matter with the Chief Minister and take a decision. He said that nine taluks in the district are reeling under drought and villages lacked drinking water. He said that the government has taken a step to provide drinking water by implementing a permanent irrigation project.

MP G.S. Basavaraju, MLA Rafeeq Ahmed and MLC M.R. Hulinayakar were present.
