Residents of several villages in Bookanakere hobli in K.R. Pet taluk have urged the State government to implement a comprehensive project to provide permanent drinking water supply to their villages.

Under the banner of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS), they convened a meeting at Ballenahalli in K.R. Pet on Wednesday.

The State government should supply drinking water to villages that fall under the jurisdiction of Bookanakere hobli from Gorur dam in the neighbouring Hassan district, KRRS president (Mandya) M.V. Raje Gowda said.

According to the KRRS leaders, successive governments had not initiated any measures to solve the drinking water problem in the hobli.

Bookanakere is the birthplace of the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. Even the previous BJP government failed to resolve the issue, they added.

Farmers said they would stage a massive protest on April 8 demanding a drinking water scheme for the taluk.
