Even before senior Congress leader S.M. Krishna landed in Bangalore after quitting the Union Cabinet, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party leaders hurled criticism at the former Chief Minister who is facing the possibility of spearheading the Congress poll campaign in the State.
The first among the BJP leaders to lash out at Mr. Krishna was party national general secretary and Bangalore South MP Ananth Kumar.
“The great person is arriving in Bangalore. When he was Chief Minister, he only declared that he will not release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and also took out a political padayatra. But unlike us who stood by the promise, he did not keep the word. He not only let the water, but also had to apologise to the Supreme Court,” Mr. Kumar said while participating at the party Bangalore city unit’s special meeting.
Ridiculed
Bangalore North MP D.B. Chandre Gowda ridiculed the Congress leaders for celebrating the arrival of Mr. Krishna to the State rather than demanding an explanation from the Congress high command over why a “talented minister” was made to quit.
Taking serious exception to the Congress’ campaign demanding details on expenditure related to Central funds by the State government, he remarked that the Congress leaders did not even have a basic understanding of the Constitution as such expenditure details would have already been given to various constitutional bodies including Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG).
“It is ironical that they seek to debunk the reports of CAG in Parliament, but demand expenditure details on the streets,” he remarked and demanded details of the black money allegedly stashed away by the Congress leaders in Swiss banks.
Campaign
The BJP leaders announced that a campaign would be launched at all the Assembly constituencies against the failures of the UPA government from November 10 to 20.
