KPSC recruitment case: CID pulled up for not submitting report on time

It should have submitted it by February 23; court gives two more weeks' time

Expressing displeasure over the failure of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit its final findings within the stipulated six months on the alleged fraud in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment, the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday directed the CID to submit its findings within the next two weeks.

The CID was to have submitted its comprehensive findings into the alleged fraud in the process of recruitment by the KPSC for the post of gazetted probationer during 1998, 1999 and 2004, by February 23, 2012.

The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice B.V. Nagarathna passed Tuesday's order while hearing public interest litigation filed by B.V. Umesh in 2009 complaining about fraud in the recruitment process.

If the CID fails to submit report within two weeks, then its Deputy Inspector General (DIG) will have to personally appear before the court on April 10.

The Bench noticed that the CID, in its application, had stated that the Forensic Science Laboratory, Bangalore, was yet to give its report on certain forged documents. However, the Bench said that the CID should have submitted its report by February 23, 2012.

The Bench said enough time had been given and if the FSL report was not provided in two weeks it would recommend suspension of FSL Director. Besides, the Director will have to appear before the court during the next hearing.
