KPCL plans to get Bidadi project executed through Central agency

With its gas-based power plant project in Bidadi getting delayed due to litigation related to tenders, Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd. (KPCL) is planning to cancel the tenders and get the project implemented through a Central agency, according to Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

At a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Shivakumar said, “We are thinking whether it is possible to hand over the 700-MW project to any of the Central agencies.”

Gas plant in Yelahanka He also reiterated that KPCL would set up a 350-MW gas-based power plant at its diesel power generating station in Yelahanka. The 128-MW diesel power generating station, set up in 1993, has 120 acres of land. The Minister said the proposed gas-based station at Yelahanaka would be a dedicated power station for Bangalore.

Cautioning wind energy developers who have failed to implement the projects despite getting government clearances, the Minister said the government would cancel the clearances of those who had not made any progress in implementation of the project.

Notice issued The State had a total wind energy potential of 13,236 MW and clearances had been given to various developers to set up plants with a capacity of 12,752 MW. However, only plants with total capacity of 2,365 MW had come up so far, he said, and added the government had issued notice to the developers of projects with a total capacity of about 10,000 MW asking them to explain the reasons for the delay in execution of the projects.
