The State Election Committee of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) will hold deliberations here for two days from Saturday to scrutinise 2,150 applications received from party candidates seeking ticket to contest the Legislative Assembly elections.
According to sources close to KPCC president G. Parameshwara, the 51-member committee will discuss the pros and cons of issuing ticket to contestants in each Assembly constituency.
The sources said that the committee may consider giving ticket to young party workers as AICC vice-president and MP Rahul Gandhi wanted to inject young blood from the Congress into the legislature.
Invited
Mr. Rahul Gandhi had also invited Leaders of the Opposition in the Assembly and the Council, Siddaramaiah and S.R. Patil, and Dr. Parameshwara to New Delhi on March 21 for a discussion on the committee’s list of candidates.
Report
Meanwhile, KPCC leaders submitted a report to AICC General Secretary Madhusudhan Mistry on the urban local bodies election results. The party, the sources said, will consider taking the support of secular parties to come to power in the urban local bodies where the Congress has fallen short of a majority.
