Members of various women’s outfits and progressive organisations have decided to intensify their agitation demanding justice to the family members of a dowry harassment victim who are on an indefinite dharna here from August 21.

Demonstrations will be staged outside all taluk offices on Thursday to demand the arrest of the main accused in the case, S.K. Santhoshkumar, Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane (JMS) district secretary V. Geetha said on Tuesday.

Beerappa and Sunandamma, the parents of Veena (23), who along with her two-year-old daughter Deepthi were killed allegedly by Santhoshkumar and his family members at Keelukote here on July 10, are staging a dharna on the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises demanding justice. Santhoshkumar was allegedly demanding more dowry and also harassing Veena for giving birth to a girl.

A JMS delegation met Home Minister K.J. George in Bangalore on Monday. According to JMS activists, Mr. George was not aware of either the incident or the agitation. After the delegation members provided details of the case, the Home Minister assured them of taking action.

The outfits have condemned the “silence” of district in-charge Minister U.T. Khader and other people’s representatives in the district, including Kolar MLA Varthur Prakash, over the issue.

Superintendent of Police Ram Nivas Sepat told The Hindu on Tuesday that three teams had been formed to arrest Santhoshkumar. Santhoshkumar has been absconding since July 10. Two other people arrested in the case are out on bail.
