Contrary to initial reports, the Kolar Lok Sabha (reserved) constituency recorded 75.5 per cent polling on Thursday.
As many as 11,25,529 voters, of the total electorate of 14,90,848 in the constituency, exercised their franchise.
The constituency had registered 69.35 per cent polling in the 2009 elections.
This time, while the Malur Assembly segment in the Kolar Lok Sabha constituency recorded the highest 80.07 per cent polling, KGF segment recorded the lowest 63.27 per cent polling.
As many as 5,81,702 men voters, of the total 7,53,783, and 5,43,820 women voters, of the total 7,36,921, exercised their franchise. Only seven of the 141 voters in the ‘other’ category voted in the constituency.
The polling percentage in the eight Assembly segments in the constituency is as follows: Sidlaghat – 78.91, Chintamani – 77.37, Srinivasapur – 78.77, Mulbagal – 74.05, Kolar Gold Fields – 62.37, Bangarpet 76.68, Kolar – 74.59and Malur – 80.07. Various awareness programmes carried out as part of the Systematic Voters Education and Electorate Participation under the leadership of the Kolar Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer R. Vinot Priya are being attributed as among the reasons for the huge turnout in this backward region.
