Office-bearers of the Kolar District Congress Committee, including those from Kolar Gold Fields and Bethamangala blocks, and KGF municipal councillors on Wednesday tendered their resignations to KPCC president G. Parameshwara. This was in protest against his alleged letter to the screening committee chairman Luizhano Faleiro recommending the name of V. Shankar and ignoring Roopakala Shashidhar, daughter of Union Minister of State for Medium, Small and Micro Industries K.H. Muniyappa to contest from KGF Assembly constituency.

Speaking to The Hindu, the party leaders, who visited Dr. Parameshwara said that in his letter he had informed Mr. Faleiro that KGF had more Tamil voters and the seat should be given to a Tamil, misguiding the AICC.

They said the former MP and National Commission for Minorities vice-chairman H.T. Sangliana had tried to explain to party president Sonia Gandhi that C.V. Raman Nagar, Gandhinagar and Shantinagar had more of a Tamil population than the KGF.

‘No audience’

They were also unhappy that Mr. Muniyappa was not given an audience by Ms. Gandhi to plead his daughter’s case. It was a surprise how her name, which was passed through all the levels, was suddenly replaced by Mr. Shankar and kept a secret till the last date for filing of nominations, they said.
