A digital nerve centre (DiNC), touted to be the first of its kind in the country, was launched in Kolar on Sunday by the Health and Family Welfare Department in association with Tata Trusts.

The DiNC aims to improve access to healthcare for residents of Kolar by improving facilities in primary health centres and with the use of telemedicine to provide medical care from specialists. Patient records will be digitised in the system so that they can be accessible to specialists anywhere.

Huge target

Health and Family Welfare Minister K.R. Ramesh Kumar said the centre will be a model in health delivery system. The State government has targeted 1.4 crore families under health services through this project, he said.

The centre is located on the Kamala Nehru Sanatorium premises. Tata Trusts will support the digital infrastructure for the centre and provide software, platform and service. The State government will provide manpower to deliver the services. Accredited Social Health Activists and Auxiliary Nursing Midwives will be the backbone of this project, said Mr. Ramesh Kumar.
