Ongoing protests against drawing a 400 KV high-tension power line from Mysuru to Kerala gained further momentum here on Saturday with farmers from Kodagu staging a demonstration.

Hundreds of farmers and women from Kodagu district participated in the sit-in protest that was held in front of ‘Cauvery Park’ of the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.

They shouted slogans against the State government for drawing the power line through verdant forests and coffee estates in several districts in Karnataka and Kerala States.

The protestors urged the State government to use the existing power transmission lines to reduce damage to forests.

Later, they submitted a memorandum against the project to the Housing and district in-charge Minister M.H. Ambareesh near Deputy Commissioner’s office. Melkote MLA K.S. Puttannaiah was present.

Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha had organised the protest.
