In all probability, the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) will have its new chairperson by Wednesday.

M.P. Raveendra, Harapanahalli MLA, and P. Nagaraj of the Ramanagaram unit are the main contenders for the coveted post.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Minister for Cooperation and Sugar H.S. Mahadeva Prasad said there was no confusion over the appointment of a new chairperson. For the first time, 11 of the 13 directors enjoyed Congress’ support. Minister for Animal Husbandry T.B. Jayachandra was in New Delhi and will return on Wednesday. “A final decision will be taken then and the choice will be unanimous,” he said.

CBI probe

On the Rs. 63-crore gold loan scam at the District Central Cooperative Bank in Shimoga, the Minister said the government had already ordered a CID probe.

Action had been initiated against more than 15 persons. “If need be, the government will not hesitate to hand over the case to the CBI,” he said.

In a major transformation in the sugar procurement mechanism, the government signed a memorandum of understanding with local cooperative sugar factories to buy sugar under the public distribution system.

The government plans to lift about 30,000 tonnes of sugar from Mysore Sugar Factory, he said.

With the intention of giving more teeth to the Sugarcane Control Board, Karnataka Sugarcane (Regulation of Purchase and Supply) Act was amended, Mr. Prasad said.
