KLE Society chairman Prabhakar Kore, MP, announced on Wednesday that the society would start a new medical college in Hubli and a cancer hospital in Belgaum city and both of them would start functioning from next year.

He was addressing the inaugural function of the 97th KLES Foundation Day here.

Paying rich tributes to the founders of the KLES who are remembered as ‘Saptarishis’, he said Hubli-based Moorsavira Math had donated 25 acres of land to the society to establish the medical college. The construction would be taken up soon so that the first batch could be started from the academic year 2013-14.

The society’s J.N. Medical College (JNMC) here is celebrating its golden jubilee this year.

Illustrious founders

Mr. Kore recalled the evolution of the society and hailed the sacrifices made by its illustrious founders — S.S. Basvanal, M.R. Sakhare, B.B. Mamdapur, H.F. Kattimani, P.R. Chikodi, B.S. Hanchinal and V.V. Patil.

He said the present management with the support of its board of members, teaching and non-teaching staff and several well-wishers had strived to ensure that institutions such as the JNMC, KLES Super-speciality Hospital (Belgaum) and B.V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology (Hubli), earned international recognition.

There were 247 institutions under the KLES now and three more would be started before the centenary year.

P. Sadananda Maiya, food industrialist, who was felicitated on the occasion, told the students that hard work blended with new technologies and service orientation was the key to success.

Recognition

He reminded them that from being an ordinary boy from a small village in Udupi district he had emerged as a leading entrepreneur in food processing and packaging industry today. He appealed to the youth to contribute to nation building through commitment and dedication.

Shivalingeshwar Swami of Siddha Sansthan Math, Nidasosi, commended the KLES management for its initiatives in taking education to even the most remote villages of Karnataka and at the same time expanding its scope of activities at national and international levels.

KLES president Shivanand H. Koujalgi presided over the function. S.C. Pilli, chairman of the board of life members of the KLES, welcomed the gathering and presented a brief report on the achievements of the institution. S.S. Urabinavar, secretary, board of management, KLES, also spoke.

Students of various KLE institutions who excelled in academic, co-curricular and sports activities at State-, national- and international-level were presented with gold and silver medals and certificate of merit. Four staff members were honoured for their meritorious service.
