Kidnapped PU student’s body found

The abduction of a II PU student from Mysore ended in tragedy as his body was found near Mysore on Wednesday.

The boy, Sanjay (18), a commerce student at a private college here, who was kidnapped from near his house in Railway Layout in Vijayanagar here on December 12, was found dead at Varuna Canal in Doddakatoor in Jayapura hobli.

Police suspect that the boy was killed four or five days ago. On receiving information from local residents, the police went to the spot and shifted the body for post-mortem.

According to the police, Sanjay was the son of Tararam, a pawnbroker, who owned a shop at Paduvarahalli here. The family hailed from Rajasthan but had been living in Mysore for many years.

The police said that Sanjay was abducted around 6.30 p.m. when he went out and the family received a call from the kidnappers around 9.30 p.m. Tararam immediately went to the Vijayanagar police station and filed a complaint.

20 teams were formed

Police Commissioner K.L. Sudheer told The Hindu that 20 teams were formed to trace the boy. “Despite our efforts, the boy could not be traced,” he said.

The Commissioner said the kidnappers allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs. 40 lakh to Rs. 50 lakh. “The abductors were speaking in Hindi,” he said.

Mr. Sudheer said the case would be investigated from all angles. “Our efforts in this case will continue until the killers are nabbed,” he said.

During investigations, calls were traced from various places inside and outside the State. The kidnapping of two students from Hunsur in July last had also ended in tragedy.
