A 15-day Khadi Utsav, an exhibition of khadi products, began at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry on Vinoba Road here on Sunday.

Minister in-charge of Mysore district V. Srinivas Prasad inaugurated the utsav, organised by the Karnataka State Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVI).

The exhibition is part of an action plan to promote khadi sales in the State during 2013-14. More than Rs. 1 crore has been set aside to hold khadi exhibitions at important places in the State during this year.

Another 15-day State-level khadi expo will be held in Belgaum in December, according to the board.

District-level expos for seven days will be held in Gulbarga, Shimoga, Mangalore, Davangere, Yadgir, Koppal and Dharwad this year and early next year.

The national-level 30-day KVI expo will be held in Bangalore in January next year.

Officials from KVI have appealed to people to buy khadi products at the expo and encourage the weavers dependent on the industry.
