A number of ‘safai karmacharis’ from Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) on Monday staged a protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Earlier, led by Dalit Safai Karmachari Human Rights Protection Forum, they took out a procession in the town.
Alleging that the KGF City Municipal Council (CMC) has failed in preparing the manual scavengers list properly, the Forum demanded that names of 26 more genuine manual scavengers should be included in the list. “The Commissioner of the CMC is not intitating proper steps towards including the genuine manual scavengers, and is divesting them from their rightful rehabilitation facilities,” Forum president V. Dinakar Madiga said.
The Forum also charged the Social Welfare Department of failure to sanction scholarships to the children of safai karmacharis.
