Kempe Gowda, Tipu Sultan birth places to be developed

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M. Veerappa Moily on Monday said that the birth places of Kempe Gowda and Tipu Sultan in Devanahalli would be developed at a cost of Rs. 6.5 crore from the Oil Fund.

The Minister, who represents Chickballapur Lok Sabha constituency, was speaking at a function to flag off the Yeshwanthpur-Chandigarh Sampark Kranti Bi-weekly Express and laying the foundation stone for a renovated Yelahanka Railway Station at Yelahanka here.

Mr. Moily said that Kempe Gowda’s birth place is located at Avathi village, near Devanahalli, where an auditorium would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 1 crore.

The Minister said that a person owning 2.5 acres of land adjacent to Tipu Sultan’s birthplace in Devanahalli has come forward to give the land for building a Tipu Sultan memorial.

He will be given alternative land by the district administration, he said.

Mr. Veerappa Moily also promised the residents of Arkavathi catchment area that their interests would be protected.
