‘Karnataka will construct reservoir at Mekedatu’

Minister for Water Resources M.B. Patil, on Friday, said the State government will construct a balancing reservoir across the Cauvery at Mekedatu.

He was speaking to presspersons at Iggalur in Channapatna taluk in Ramanagaram district, after inspecting the works at Iggalur barrage.

The government is also planning to rejuvenate Kanva, Arkavathi and Shimsha rivers in Ramanagaram district by constructing the balancing reservoir at Mekedatu. The government has decided to spend Rs. 155 crore to supply drinking water to Kanakapura and Ramanagaram towns, the Minister said.

According to him, the government will fill 27 lakes in the district by completing the Mekedatu project.
