The Cabinet on Monday decided to purchase 987 buses at a cost of Rs. 429 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission.
According to sources in the Secretariat, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation would be purchasing 487 buses at a cost of Rs. 184.12 crore, while Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation would buy 500 buses at a cost of Rs. 245 crore.
A Cabinet meeting was learnt to have decided to keep in abeyance the Karnataka Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Fixation of Fee) Act, 2006 for admission of students for medical, engineering and dental courses in 2014-15. The government and private managements have decided to continue with last year’s fee structure and seat-sharing ratio for admission for the next academic year (2014-15). The Cabinet has given administrative approval for the Nandavadi Lift Irrigation project and it will be constructed at a cost of Rs 1,530 crore. The target fixed for levy rice was reduced from 2.5 lakh tonnes to 1.5 lakh tonnes. The Cabinet gave approval for tenders for construction of buildings for Gulbarga, Madikeri, Koppal and Karwar government colleges. It also approved a Rs. 65-crore drinking water project for 107 villages of Tumkur district. The Cabinet has approved construction of a police station building at Chickballapur, a new pharmacy college in Gulbarga, and taking up development works at Talacauvery and Bhagamangala in Kodagu district at a cost of Rs. 16.24 crore, official sources said.
