Farmers of both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have spoken about resolving the Cauvery water sharing issue among themselves, without relying on political parties and leaders, who they believe are taking advantage of the situation for political growth.
The farmers from both States have planned to meet either in Bengaluru or in Chennai to discuss possible ways of making use of Cauvery waters, amicably.
Kuruburu Shanthkumar, president, Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers Association, and also president of Kabini Farmers Welfare Committee, told The Hindu that he had already spoke to over 15 prominent farmers’ leaders of Tamil Nadu in this regard and they had agreed to attend the meeting.
Date to be fixed
The venue and date of the meeting will be finalised soon, he said, and added that farmers of both the States have realised that most of the political parties and leaders want the issue to last for years to their their advantage, unmindful about the disturbance and differences it has created in both the States.
