Engineering students from Karnataka have excelled in the national design and development contest ‘Sparkle-2015’ held at Pune by winning the grand prize and the silver prize. The grand prize was of Rs. 10 lakhs.
Pune’s KPIT Technologies Ltd and College of Engineering had jointly organised the national-level event which saw participation of as many as 1,100 students from 114 colleges of 17 states across India. The contest was aimed at motivating the science and engineering students to work on innovative ideas in the areas of transportation and energy.
Jainendra Mishra from Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumakuru, won the grand prize of Rs. 10 lakhs for his innovative solution to increase efficiency of hybrid and electric vehicles, which run on lithium-polymer battery pack, by using a novel circuitry grid using SANDY (Switching algorithm and cell dynamics) algorithm.
Suraj Aru, Shubham Gajabhiye, Tejas Auti, Harshal Nikam, and Pravin Jadhav from the host College were chosen for the Gold award carrying a purse of Rs. 5 lakhs.
Hubballi’s credit
Two teams from Hubballi’s BVB College of Engineering and Technology one comprising of Ajay Kandgal and Vivekanand Kulkarni and another comprising of Sourabh Alagundagi, Rajat Bapuri and Sumitra Malagi made Hubballi proud by not only reaching the finals but also bagging the Silver Award. Shruti Kharwandikar and Kruti Patel from MKSSS's Cummins College of Engineering for Women, Pune shared the Silver award with them. They award carried a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh each. In the final round, the shortlisted teams presented ‘proof of concept’ of their solutions for various global issues.
What was significant was that Hubballi’s BVB College topped the list for most number of innovative ideas. Of the total 424 ideas received from across 17 states, the Hubballi college students had sent 95 ideas.
Prof. M.S. Ananth from IIT Mumbai, Co-founder, Chairman and Group CEO, KPIT, Ravi Pandit and R.A. Mashelkar, Head, Innovation Council, KPIT honoured with winners at the award ceremony held in Pune recently. Lauding the winners, Mr Ravi Pandit said that present day’s youth had enormous potential to find feasible solutions to several of the existing challenges.
