Karnataka Minister for Revenue, V. Srinivas Prasad called on Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh in New Delhi on Thursday and submitted a memorandum seeking Rs. 266 crore aid from the Centre for tackling drought in the State.
The State government has declared 34 taluks in nine districts as drought-hit.
The taluks were declared drought-hit following deficient rainfall for three consecutive years. The government is contemplating increasing the compensation amount to those whose houses have been completely damaged from Rs. 17,600 to Rs. 40,000 and for partially damaged houses from Rs. 3,800 to Rs. 20,000. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will give his stamp of approval for the proposal soon, he said.
Karnataka Bhavan Resident Commissioner, Vandana Gurnani and Joint Resident Commissioner C. G. Suprasanna were also present on the occasion.
