Karnataka Government today announced that it was fully geared up to meet the power demand likely to touch about 170 million units per day during March and April.
The State will purchase 1300 mw from Chhattisgarh to meet the growing demand and to ensure that there will be no power cuts during these summer months, Minister for Power, Food and Civil Supplies Shobha Karandlaje told reporters here.
The demand touched 164 million units on February 12 and the power companies managed to supply, she said.
The minister said 500 mw was expected to flow into the power grid by this September end when the third unit of the Bellary power plant would start production. The 500 mw capacity thermal power plant at Udupi was also expected to commence operation by year end.
