A Karnataka CB-CID police team conducted an inquiry with the wife of a fisherman of Chettipatti village in Kolathur block who was killed in an alleged shootout in October 2014.
Palani (40) of Chettipatti, M. Raja (32) and Muthusamy (47), both of Karaikkadu in Kolathur block, were fishing in the Cauvery when they were allegedly shot at by Karnataka forest officials. While the family of the three claimed that they were only fishing, the officials alleged that they were poachers and there was an exchange of fire. While Raja and Muthusamy managed to escape with injuries, Palani went missing. His body was found floating with head injuries in the Cauvery near Kolathur on the Karnataka border a couple of days later.
His supporters indulged in violence and vandalised a Karnataka Forest Department check-post and office at Palar in Chamarajnagar district and allegedly took away weapons. The Madeswaran Hills police registered a case and the Karnataka government later shifted the case to the CB-CID.
A CB-CID team led by a DSP on Friday conducted an inquiry with Santha, wife of Palani, at the Kolathur police station. They also held an inquiry with Raja and Muthusamy.
