Karnataka, Israel sign MoU

Karnataka and Israel signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in industrial and technological research and development. The agreement is expected to significantly expand business, technology and economic relations between Karnataka and Israel, while enabling financial support to cooperative research and development projects in future. An innovation workshop was held here on Tuesday to launch a new cooperative programme supporting technological research and development cooperation between companies in Israel and Karnataka.

The workshop was organised jointly by the Department of Science and Technology, the Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society and MATIMOP, an Israeli Industry Centre for Research and Development.

Avi Luvton, executive director of MATIMOP, spoke. M.N. Vidyashankar, principal secretary, Department of Industry and Commerce, noted that while India had the market and engineers, it needed Israel’s innovation. Israel was known for its spending on research and has been ranked highly over the past decade for expenditure on research and development.

Kaushik Mukherjee, Development Commissioner, spoke. The workshop was attended by representatives of several small, medium scale industries, as well as research and development institutions/ organisations from across the State.
