Karnataka Governor gives nod to Lokayukta Act amendment

Governor Vajubhai R. Vala has given assent to the Karnataka Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2015, which was passed by the State legislature primarily for removal of Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Bhaskar Rao.

It is alleged that Justice Rao’s son Y. Ashwin was involved in the extortion racket in collusion with some officials of the body. The Special Investigation Team was conducting the probe.

Now, one-third members of either house of the State legislature can submit a notice to the Speaker of the Assembly or the Chairman of the Council seeking removal of the Lokayukta.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra told presspersons on Monday that the Governor has given assent to the Karnataka Land Reforms (Amendment) Bill, 2015, to increase the income limit from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 25 lakh for purchasing farmland.

Mr Vala has given his nod to the Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2015, aims to bring changes in Karnataka Land Revenue Act 1964 to enhance the limit of regularisation of unauthorised construction of dwelling house in government land in rural areas under section 94C from 2,400 Sq feet to 4,000 sq feet.
