A quick exchange of greetings and a rather reluctant embrace—— Governor H R Bhardwaj and Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today shared the dais at a Republic Day function amid the ongoing bitter political battle between them.

All eyes were riveted on the two as they greeted each other with a bouquet of flowers and posed for photographs at the Manekshaw Parade Ground.

Mr. Bhardwaj and Mr. Yeddyurappa exchanged quick greetings and an uncomfortable embrace as the shutterbugs went on clicking pictures of the two leaders who are at loggerheads after the Governor gave sanction for prosecution of the Chief Minister in alleged land scams.

The Governor and Chief Minister also released balloons, marking the launch of the Karnataka chapter of the Census.

Mr. Yeddyurappa chose to leave the function after the Governor’s customary address in which he warned people against any complacency in rooting out corruption and lauded the Lokayukta for doing his best in cleansing the system.

The Governor went on to hand over prizes to students who won cultural events.

Ruling BJP has announced an anti-governor campaign pressing for his recall, accusing him of trying to destabilise its first ever government in South India in collusion with opposition Congress and JDS.
