Karnataka government has decided to settle pending medical bills of legendary playback singer Manna Dey, who died at a private hospital here on October 24, to the tune of about Rs 25 lakh.

“...this is not just a gesture of the state government, but a mark of respect to the great singer, who had sung few songs for Kannada films also,” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said in an official release late last evening.

The Chief Minister also announced that the state government will organise “Naada Namana”, a musical night, as a tribute to Manna Dey, the release added.

Dey’s family is said to have appealed to the Chief Minister to help them pay the bills when he had visited them on October 25 to offer his condolences.

The family had earlier alleged that some of Dey’s relatives had siphoned off his Rs 30 lakh, which they were trying hard to get back to pay the bills.
