In the backdrop of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh governments hinting a ban on Maggi noodles manufactured by Nestle, the Karnataka government too is planning to go for laboratory tests on the food product.
Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies and district in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao said it had been revealed in the tests conducted in laboratories in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh that the food product contained chemical components that posed health hazards.
“We will ask the Health Department to conduct tests on the Maggi noodles. Based on the results, we will take further steps,” he said.
The Minister highlighted the need for manufacturers to follow the guidelines of the Food Security Act under which food products harmful for consumptions would be banned. He said that the product samples would be taken for tests within a week and the test results would be announced soon.
