The Excise Department arrested six persons and seized 4 kg of charas, a banned drug, worth Rs. 25 lakh at Nippani on Saturday afternoon. The police also seized a van and a car.

According to Shivangouda, Excise Superintendent, State Intelligence Bureau, the contraband was being smuggled from Maharashtra into Karnataka. The Karnataka excise police intercepted the accused near a hotel in Nipani town.

The accused have been identified as Deepak Jadhav, 25, Balkrishna Jadhav, 23, and Kishore Jadhav, 24, all three from Kalmath of Sindudurg district; Sagar Chavan, 19, of Kanadavali near Pune; Vishal Mohit, 25, and Sachin Chavan, 33, both from Duriwad of Sindudurg district.

A case has been registered. Further investigation is on.

The police have also seized mobile handsets from the accused.
