The Karnataka Government will provide irrigation facilities to two lakh ha during the current financial year, said Excise Minister and Belgaum district in-charge Satish L. Jarkiholi.

Speaking at 67 Independence Day celebrations here on Thursday, he said, in addition to entire Belgaum city, Gokak and Nippani towns in the district will get 24x7 drinking water supply projects soon.

A proposal to upgrade the 500-bed hospital attached to the Belgaum Institute of Medical Sciences into a super-speciality hospital at an estimated Rs.100 crore during the next five years has been submitted to the State Government for approval.

The Government has earmarked Rs. 2,164 crore and Rs.837 crore (total Rs.3,001 crore) towards development of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the finance budget 2013-14. It has also proposed to construct three lakh houses under various housing schemes, including Ashrya, for the poor in the State every year.
