Asking the constabulary in the State to come forward for an amicable solution to their grievances, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has warned of serious action against those participating in the proposed protest on June 4.

The Home Department is tracking down people provoking and supporting the protest, the Chief Minister said, after reviewing the situation at a meeting with Home Ministry officials and top IPS officers, including the Director-General and Inspector-General of Police Om Prakash here on Tuesday.

“I have faith in the police force, and I am sure they will not be provoked. If they have any grievances and lawful demands, it should be discussed and resolved amicably. A protest by the police would be considered seriously and legal action initiated against them,” he reiterated.

Refusing to divulge the action to be initiated against those provoking or participating in the strike, Mr. Siddaramaiah said the government was contemplating serious action against those provoking police personnel to go on ‘mass leave’. Strict action will be taken against those who indulge in such acts, he said. When asked about the proposed strike getting support from various organisations and the opposition BJP, Mr. Siddaramaiah said the BJP and other parties supporting such a protest was condemnable, and said that such action was merely to gain political mileage.

‘Heed to their demands’

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has urged the State government to heed to the demands of the police constables and commit to a time-bound plan to resolve their issues. AAP State convener Prithvi Reddy told presspersons here on Tuesday that an overworked, underpaid, stressed, and dissatisfied police force was a disaster for the safety and security of citizens.
