State leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party are learnt to have made it clear to their central leader Sushma Swaraj that they are keen on re-admitting BSR Congress leader B. Sriramulu into their party fold.
Ms. Swaraj had publicly opposed the moves to re-admit Mr. Sriramulu into the party soon after he made a public announcement on his plans to return to the BJP, which he had quit before the Assembly elections.
Ms. Swaraj’s main contention is that the BSR Congress has links with leaders who are facing charges.
Following her objections, the State leaders, who were in Delhi on Friday and Saturday for a meeting with the party’s central election committee, are learnt to have discussed the issue with her.
Reservations“Ms. Swaraj still has some reservations on Mr. Sriramulu’s return to the BJP. However, we have strongly put forth our views with her as well as other central leaders,” a prominent State leader of the party said.
The State leadership is expecting the green signal from the central leadership on re-inducting Mr. Sriramulu in a few days. This was evident with the party keeping out Bellary — from where it wants to field Mr. Sriramulu — from its first list of Lok Sabha candidates released on Saturday. “We are confident of getting clearance from the central leadership to re-induct Mr. Sriramulu [into the party],” the sources said.
